(St. Augustine, Fla., April 25, 2007) —  The Ideal company facilities received a 2006 Tomkins HSE Excellence Award among 35 recipients out of 180 Tomkins companies that participated in the HSE challenge. The award addresses the Tomkins companies’ commitment to continuous improvement and performance related to Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) impact.

“In the world of manufacturing, it is no longer acceptable to simply be the most efficient or the lowest cost producer, management must also consider the daily implications of health and safety, as well as the surrounding community and its role in worldwide development. The Tomkins award was given to its companies that exemplified high regard for HSE standards based on evaluation of 12 criteria developed by Tomkins governance and industry standards. The criteria are summarized as follows:

1. Incidental Safety: Metrics that provide valuable information on the safety of the facility and offer improvements from job safety analysis.

2. Severity Rate: Stresses that improve the safety program by reducing injuries and lowering the severity rate.

3. Waste Index: Understanding facility inputs and outputs, allowing Value Stream Mapping, Lean improvements, and reducing process waste.

4. Emissions: Important not only for permit compliance, but to review opportunities to minimize environmental impact. This includes monitoring and response to greenhouse gas (GHC) emissions (carbon dioxide, methane, nitrogen oxides), pollutants, and ozone-depleting substances (ODS).

5. Required to pass audit of Environmental Management System (EMS).

6. Regulatory HSE Compliance: Considers correspondence from regulatory/governmental agencies in regard to compliance or potential non-compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations.

7. Addresses reporting measures and makes certain the facility is up-to-date for accurate audits, reports and communications.

8. Resource Conservation: Tracking of resource consumption. Data used to make cost-effective decisions on resource use. Includes management of energy usage, water consumption, fleet vehicles and raw materials.

9. Citizenship: Designed to measure the relationship of the company/facility with the surrounding community and enlists local participation and interaction of employees with the community.

10. Professional Development for HSE employees: Awards points for HSE-related certifications and attending topical conferences and seminars.

11. Third Party Audits – Third party audits are given and any corrective action plans are completed in the assigned time frame.

12. Corporate Audits – Corporate Audits are given and proof and resolution to any corrective action must be provided to corporate control auditors.
